Don`t worry, you are not alone!
The DC Power Jack is a very common breakdown on laptops. We see it happen virtually every day. It has even happened to one of our laptops!
It is a known weak spot on laptops and notebooks.
The DC jack on your laptop is a very small, very fragile component and very poorly designed on every Windows based laptop. It may be a small, fragile component, but it is critical, for without it you have no power via the power charger cord.
The DC Power Jack on laptops and notebooks are not designed to take a lot of abuse. If the cord is allowed to place a lot of lateral pressure on the jack, then eventually the jack will fail. Any lateral, angular or any torque will eventually damaged the internal power connection.
The DC Jack is soldered to the motherboard by 3 -9 very small pieces of metal, which can very easily break.
Does your laptop has any of the following symptoms...
Operating a laptop with a bad DC Jack, intermittent power is not recommended!
It may be tempting to plug the power cable in at an angle, use blu tack (yes I`ve seen this before!) and other methods to make the power jack stay in place. This can cause further damage to your laptop`s motherboard circuitry.
The time to get this checked and fixed is when you first start noticing erratic power and an intermittent battery charging cycle when laptop is plugged in. Around 95% of the time the DC Jack can be repaired or replaced and your laptop can be back up working again in no time.
It all depends if the damage is only to the DC Power Jack socket. If the DC Jack has also been damaged by forcing it into the socket, the main motherboard of your laptop could crack and the PCB where the jack mounts to may become irreparable. At this point, the entire motherboard will need to be replaced, due to damaged tracking.
The quicker you get this sorted out at the first sign of trouble, the less damage you will be doing to your laptop.
Toshiba and Sony laptops are particularly prone to the socket braking away from its holder and dropping inside the case, due to poor design.
We can perform a power jack modification that works!

A loose or broken DC power jack (power connector) on your laptop`s motherboard can cause a burning smell to come from the DC jack area. This is because the broken pins on the socket are being shorted and may be damaging some other components on the motherboard.
If you send your laptop with a broken or loose DC power jack to the original manufacturer service centre, they will replace entire motherboard for more than £300 and take at least one week to solve this simple problem. We will be able to replace the broken DC jacks on the motherboard with brand new original power jacks or repair the loose jacks by using special tools because some power jacks( like Dell, Acer, Gateway power jacks) can not be easily removed by using a regular soldering iron.
All makes of notebooks are repaired: Toshiba, Acer, HP (Hewlett-Packard), Compaq, Dell, IBM, Fujitsu Siemens, Samsung, LG, Sony, Packard Bell, NEC, Advent, Medion, Gateway, Patriot, Hi-Grade, Philips, Asus, Averatec, Gericom, ECS, Elitegroup .... If your notebook is not listed it is very likely repairable as well. Please give us a call.
How power jacks break:
